I’ve been trying like hell to promote my blog. But in 5 months have only had about 500 visitors according to the counter. Can anyone suggest some blog promotion ideas? I’m beginning to get disheartened as this is not something that is doing me any good. Is this something I just have to work at or is it just not getting out there? I can tell you that it is not just a personal blog, there really should be readers for the topic I post about. I’ve already posted it on a bunch of blog directories. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.http://freesamplequests.blogspot.com/

Article marketing is a good way to get traffic to a new site. Write some short (300-400 word) articles to submit to EzineArticles and put your site information in the author resource box (include a reason why people should visit your site). If you write a few articles a day, in a couple of weeks you’ll start to see a steady stream of visitors.
Another good way is to visit forums that relate to your topic and talk up your blog there, not in a spammy way but if you genuinely think it will benefit the people that participate there then you’re offering a service. Answer people’s questions and at the end mention your blog.
Also if the forum allows you to use promote your site in a signature file, put a link to your site in the signature so that it gets added to every post. Then even if you don’t mention your blog in the post, there will be a link to it in each signature.
I noticed that you only post once a month and you list all of the samples for that month in one post. I would suggest posting more often (once a week at a minimum) and maybe spreading the samples over several posts per month. That will keep your content “fresher” and get you more listings in places like technorati. I would even suggest that you make each free sample description its own post.
To answer your question, yes it is something you have to work at but once the traffic starts flowing it should keep coming, especially if you’re good at updating your content on a regular basis.
Here’s a link guaranteed to bump your traffic:http://www.entrecard.com
You will start seeing visitors within minutes of adding this widget to your site. It’s free to sign up and the entire site runs on a credit system where you earn credits by viewing other’s blogs, accepting advertisements on your widget, etc.
Check it out, you won’t be disappointed. It boosted my traffic from nothing to over the 1000 visitor mark per month in the first month.
Best of luck.
Get other people to link to your blog to generate traffic. You will need to link back to them, too.
