I would advise you to pick up several copies of local, and national newspapers.
Turn to the editorial pages, and read the editorials as written by the papers professional writers.
You will get a lot of good ideas, and should be able to pick your subject, and write a heck of an editorial.
Its really not that difficult, good luck to you.
