Whether you are vacationing with the entire family or just getting away with your spouse, Toronto is one of the most exciting places to visit. Shopping and dining are never hard to come by. And there are sightseeing, nightlife and outdoor activities too numerous to count. The kids will also easily be entertained here. Here is a look at some of the attractions in Toronto.
Toronto is home to the CN Tower, which until 2008, was the tallest free standing structure in the world. The Bruj Dubai took that title away, but the tower, nonetheless, is still a fascinating sight. The tower is the first thing visitors see when they approach the city.
The 1815 foot structure features glass elevators and a couple of observatory levels. Your first stop may be Look Out Level and the Glass Floor. This glass floor offers a view all the way down to street level (1136 feet down.) Or for the more adventurous, continue up to Skypod which is 1466 feet high. On a clear day, observers can see as far as Niagara Falls, approximately 100 miles to the south.
The CN offers a fabulous view of city life. But for a different perspective of the city, visit the Bloor Street Viaduct. This pedestrian pathway in the sky offers a completely different view of things. From here, the skyscrapers seem minor compared to the vast view of trees. Trees are seen everywhere, giving the appearance that Toronto is a giant forest. This walkway connects the East End of town with Midtown and is a must-see.
If you like sports, you will love Toronto. The city is home to the Hockey Hall of Fame, located in Brookfield Place. Four major sports teams also play their home games here. Catch Canadian football or baseball at Rogers Centre where the Argonauts and Blue Jays play. Or head over to Air Canada Centre where you may see the Maple Leafs in hockey action or the Raptors playing basketball.
Shopping is abundant in Toronto with several major districts. Chinatown, Queen Street West and the Eaton Centre are a few of the best areas downtown. There is also an Underground City which is popular during the winter. Some of the city’s most expensive wares are found in Midtown in areas like Bloor Street West and Yorkville. Terrific restaurants are to be found all over the city including exquisite fine dining, dinner cruises, family friendly joints and plenty of late night diners.
And do not worry about keeping the kids entertained. The Toronto Zoo, modeled after the San Diego Zoo, is one of the best on the planet. Here, the animals are all provided with natural habitats. Another great place to see some animals is the African Lion Safari which features plenty of jungle cats as well as elephants and lemurs among other creatures. Paramount Canada’s Wonderland will attract any kids with its collection of roller coaster and other rides. And for a fun learning excursion, stop by the Ontario Science Centre.
For time spent outdoors, Toronto has you covered. Year round activities include golf, hiking, boating, skiing and biking and more. There are many beaches here as well for sunbathing and swimming.
